Blue Grass are famous for their large dorsal and caudal fin with unique black speckles. The speckles are dense and well-distributed. That makes the fins look like grass. So, this strain got its famous name “Grass”.
The guppy stands the dorsal fin like a sail and swings its caudal fin rhythmically, just like a sapphire in the ocean, deep and mysterious. The speckles make it special, and the blue make it everlasting.
Blue and red are a couple from ancient times to the present. Blue Grass guppy is no exception. When a pair of Blue Grass mating, they may breed Red Grass guppy. Because the Blue Grass is a hybrid with heterozygous blue and red alleles.
The Blue Grass is created out of the Red Grass by crossing to a guppy with the Asian Blau mutation, mutation, variously called Asian Blau, r2 in Europe or Brao in Japan. (“Brao” is a variation in the spelling of “Blau.”). The Asian Blau allele is autosomal dominant. When the guppy is heterozygous for the Asian Blau allele, the blue iridescent color is produced. When it is homozygous for the Asian Blau allele, a dull, colorless phenotype is produced.Philip Shaddock
